Volunteers HEARTBROKEN After What Was Found In Donation Bucket
During an especially difficult time of year for many,
a kind act of generosity has left Salvation Army employees both grateful
and heartbroken for the donor. A bell-ringer volunteer manning the kettle
outside a Cabela’s store in South Dakota received an unlikely donation
— 14-karat gold, half-carat diamond engagement ring that was wrapped in a
$10 bill and a note, ABC affiliate KSFY reported.
Sheena Loudner, the office manager for the Salvation Army in
Mitchell, was struck by the anonymous man’s sad story when
she discovered the pricey donation. The enclosed note read:
This ring made me the happiest man in the world when she said
yes, and the saddest when she returned it. So hope you can use it to make some
kids happy. Thanks for all you do.
The charitable group relies on donations and can certainly use
this gift since they are well below their fundraising goal for the year.
Administrators had hoped to be at $35,000 by Christmas, but with only two weeks
to go until that deadline, they have only been able to collect $9,000,
according to local news source KEOLAND.
The ring’s value of $1200 will certainly go a long way to help children and
families in South Dakota that could really use a leg up in life.
The organization has decided to auction off the ring to the
highest bidder, which they hope will supersede the appraised value. Currently
the highest bid is at $750.
Oftentimes the best way to heal a broken heart is to help
others, which is exactly what this man chose to do. With a kind heart like he
has, surely love and happiness will find him once again.
