This greatest of gifts seems so small.

Lost in the holly and ivy,

Buried in cards wall to wall,

Immersed in a thousand sung carols

And smothered in tinsel and ball.

Deafened by the noise of the parties,

Entranced by a lit Christmas tree,

Blinded by the films on the tele,

Submerged in one great shopping spree.

Oft missed is that incalculable treasure,

That babe in the straw in a stall,

Devoid of all trappings and wrappings

This greatest of gifts seems so small.

He seems such an unlikely answer

To the cries and the needs of mankind,

But the wise in this world who seek further,

Are then stunned, for its God whom they find.

A much appreciated oasis even when simply working from home- a few minutes in His presence at this holiest of times.
