Maybe he's not gay Part One

NEW BOOK by Linda Harvey

"I'm gay." As more and more young people announce this is their identity, it's time to take a closer look. It's a profound declaration, a new civil right (they are told) and it's "who you are." But there's a problem. Are we sure this is the truth?

Does this identity bring the promised liberation and the key to a whole new life? Does it lift the burden of secrecy - or begin a different kind of struggle?

Maybe He's Not Gay: Another View on Homosexuality is a new book by Linda Harvey that addresses these critical questions. Specifically for America's youth, this book focuses on the bright future they can all have, regardless of the turmoil of adolescence, which for some may include same sex attractions or gender confusion. What do those feelings mean? Is there another possibility that transcends the seeming finality of a homosexual identity?

Teens, college students, parents, youth group leaders and many others will appreciate the common sense insights and faith perspective of Maybe He's Not Gay.

Guess there's some kind of irony in that the cover photo also looks like a kid who's hung himself, probably as a result of his parents reading trash like this.

First of all, yes, I did read the book, cover-to-cover. I am truly surprised that there exists a person in this day and age whose myopia is this deeply entrenched. Harvey stacks fallacy upon fallacy, until the end result is a laughable compendium of garbage. Let me say - I am not averse to hearing and engaging disagreements, even on this sensitive topic. But the way Harvey lays out her case leaves me wondering if she's ever even met a real gay person, let alone a Gay Christian . Books like this will continue to inspire false hope in vulnerable young people, and perpetuate the myth that if they just try hard enough that God will free them. As a result, they potentially enter into false marriages and leave a broken families and trails of destruction. I will not deny that there are people for whom some form of "healing" is possible, but the proportion is very small, and usually has more to do with healing other psychological damage that brings freedom. This book does not point to the God of love and hope that I know, but instead to a false doctrine of legalism and straw-man arguments that lead to pain and self-rejection. It is a real shame that this continues. To young people out there who are struggling with their sexuality - seek Jesus Christ, not misinformed fallible human beings like Linda Harvey.
