Saturday 14th December

The time is not yet, but the darkness is gathering.
The time is not yet, but the main players are taking their positions.
Come back soon and wait for the Son of God.
The time is not yet, but our time is now:
To be here and to trust a love that will see this thing through.
(Adapted from Roddy Hamilton’s ‘Spill the beans’.)

Isaiah 21 v 16b – 20
You will rejoice in the Lord,
You will glory in the Holy One of Israel.
“The poor and needy are seeking water, but there is none;
Their tongues are parched with thirst.
I, the Lord, will answer them Myself;
I, the God of Israel, will not neglect them.
“I will open rivers on the barren heights
And springs in the midst of the valleys;
I will make the wilderness a reed-pool of water
And the dry land springs of water.

“I will put the cedar in the wilderness,
The acacia, the myrtle and the olive tree;
I will place the juniper in the desert
Together with the box tree and the cypress,

So that they may see and know,
And consider and understand together,
That the hand of the Lord has done this,
That the Holy One of Israel has created it.

A prayer of St Symeon *

Come True Light,
Come, Everlasting Life,
Come, Unseen Mystery,
Come, Treasure without Category,
Come, Rejoicing Without End,
Come, Light That Knows No Nightfall,
Come, Raising of the Fallen,
Come, Resurrection of the Dead,
Come, My Breath and Life,
Come, the Encouragement of My Hungry Soul,
Come, My Happiness, My Glory, My Everlasting Light.

[*Saint Symeon, 949–1022 AD, was a Byzantine Christian monk and poet who was the last of three saints canonized by the Eastern Orthodox church and given the title of "Theologian" (along with John the Apostle and Gregory of Nazianzus).
