Immanuel

Immanuel

Black Friday done, the bargains won
with satisfaction so much saved
and Christmas shopping yet begun,
as if the streets with gold were paved.

So now the countdown can begin
while Christmas music starts to play,
yet is my soul waiting within
for yet a further advent day?

Hear as the bells begin to ring
ancient sounds from advent tide,
not from steeples are they sounding
but from the temples where tills reside.

Jingle bells, Rudolph and Frosty
Are the anthems of advent now,
Commercial Christmas could prove costly
Lest to Immanuel we bow.

Hear the peeling of the church bell,
Oh come, oh come Immanuel;
God is with us so know it well,
And from every mountain tell.
