Now a final verse of scripture. Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it (1 Thess. 5:23-24).
Our spiritual being is made up of three parts. Body, Soul and the Spirit of Man. Our five senses feed our body. These are feed into our minds which process them into Imagination, Conscience, Memory, Reason and Affection. The Holy Spirit, being our helper by renewing our mind (Romans 12:2) which is our thought process, now determines what kind of things now feed our Soul.
Our Soul is the covering that envelopes the Spirit of Man, now being concealed inside the body. While man looks on the outside, God looks on the heart or the real person concealed within our earthly structure. As Adam and Eve made a covering of leaves to hide their nakedness, this was not sufficient to hide their sin, so as the sin of man. Any covering which is of our design is not acceptable to God. It was God who provided a covering for Adam and Eve of animal skins (Gen. 3:21). Only a blood sacrifice was acceptable in the sight of God. This was reflected in the sacrifice His son would make to cover our sins so we can have forgiveness. The spirit of man is clothed by the soul inside the body.
In Hebrews, we are told that the word of God will discover our true condition. "For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Heb. 4:12). The marrow separates the Body from the Soul and the Soul from the Spirit of Man.
On the judgement day, when the books are opened and all is revealed, the new body of the unbelievers will be destroyed to show the condition of the soul. This having been fed by the spirit of man will determine their eternal destiny as the sword of the Spirit will cut away the bad part, destroying the soul. This disembodied, soulless spirit with be thrown into hell for eternity.
This is all about our thoughts and how they are processed. Our thoughts, once accepted are then stored in our hearts or soul for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks (Luke 6:45). Our mouth reveals our real soul condition. Our soul is that part of us which is the outcome of what our spirit of man produces. It's a growing process. The fruit of the Holy Spirit is Love, Joy, Peace, Longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. These are represented by the seven arrows from the Spirit of Man to the Soul. The Holy Spirit, being our helper, would therefore be helping us to foster all our thoughts and channelling them into fruit so producing a healthy soul.
Just as an analogy, I would use the egg. Outer shell representing the body, yolk is the spirit of man, and the egg white represents our soul. Humpty Dumpy sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpy had a great fall. All the kings horses and all the kings men, couldn't put Humpty together again. On the judgement day, those who fall will have no one to put them back together. A shattered mangled mess to fry in hell for eternity.
